Bleached linter pulp with brightness 76 can be obtained at 34 percent yield from cottonseed husk. This was done by two-stage kraft pulping. The husk containing linters was cooked with 1.5 percent sodium sulphide solution on hisk weight at 100 degree celsius for one hour and washed to remove most of the colouring matter in the husk. The washed husk was pulped with 10 percent caustic soda and 1.5 percent sodium sulphide at 160 degree celsius for 2 hours. The pulp was bleached with 3 percent available chlorine in sodium hypochlorite solution for 2 hours and acid washed with 0.5 percent sulphur dioxide solution for one-half hour. The pulp is distinguished for its high tearing strength, good opacity, and softness. The predominance of short thick fuzz fibres accounts for the fair tensile strength and low bursting strength.
