Proj. no. 1/10 Rep. no. 1ข้อมูลการพิมพ์: Bangkok : Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research, 1967 รายละเอียดตัวเล่ม: 90 p.หัวเรื่อง: Agricultural trade | Kenafสารสนเทศออนไลน์: Click here to access full-text สาระสังเขป: Survey of kenaf farmers and buyers in six provinces of northeastern Thailand and of kenaf traders and exporters in Bangkok carried out in 1967 reveals that (1) over 80% of the farmers operate on their own land, mainly under 40 rai, and farm largely in rice in conjunction with kenaf; (2) average income of kenaf/rice formers is 9,000 baht per year, and the cost, exclusive of family labour and land rent, is 1,149 baht, the income being aquivalent to 96 baht per rai or 0.58 baht per kg of kenaf; (3) farmers mainly sell their kenaf as 'mixed grade,' over half being rated by themselves (using varying criteria) as grade B: (4) 94% of the farmers have not, contrary to general belief, moved cultication further and further to virgin soil; (5) 20% of the farmers use chemical fertilizers rather than manure; (6) 60% of the farmers think government assistance should be in the form of lower fertilizer cost and help in pest eradication, and most would welcome government low-interest loans, mostly of less than 3,000 baht; (7) about 70% of the farmers sell their kenaf to village and district buyers, 4.8% to balers, 3% to lenders, and 1.8% to brokers; (8) traders' profit is claimed to be 0.33 baht per kg, a big increase over 1961 figure; (9) 60% of the exporters draw supplies from middemen, 20% deal with provincial traders, and 20% deal directly with farmers; (10) exporters claim that their 'gross profit' is 2%.สาระสังเขป: The kenaf industry has two types of problems. The first involves disagreements on matters of grading, which could be resolved through combined government and trade association action. The other problem concerns actions that should be taken further to develop and stabilize the industry: (1) to grow more kenaf that produce high quality fibre; (2) to increase production per rai; (3) to expand and make more efficient to present gunnysack industry.
