Although synthetic and semi-synthetic diets have been worked out, none has yet to be successfully applied in practical sericulture. For Thailand, introduction of new varieties of mulberry that will produce more leaves under dry conditions or that will grow well under irrigation is suggested. A further possibility is to use another plant (like scorzonera reported in the literature), the leaves of which can wholly or partially substitute for mulberry leaves; the plant will have to thrive well under hot and dry conditions S.K
