However, in promoting the industry it is necessary to investigate in more detail on technical and economic aspects which will provide benefits in terms of import substitution and increase national income to at least 15 million baht annually. Authorสาระสังเขป: Thailand has plenty of raw materials for the activated carbon industry such as coconut shells, corn cobs and stalks, lignite, molasses, rice hulls, saw dust, woods and others. The demand of the activated carbon in Thailand is derived from imports about 1,000-1,500 tonnes and worth approximately ten to fifteen million baht per year. This kind of carbon is necessary for various industries such as monosidium glutamete, sugar, beverages, drinking water etc. There has been a general increasing trend on price and demand of the activated carbon every year. Japan, at 9,000 tonnes of annual requirement, is the major market of activated carbon made from coconut shells.สาระสังเขป: เนื่องจากประเทศไทยยังไม่สามารถผลิตถ่านดูดซับ (Activated Carbon) ได้เองจึงจำเป็นต้องสั่งเข้ามาจากต่างประเทศประมาณปีละ 1,000 - 1,500 ตัน, คิดเป็นมูลค่า 10 - 15 ล้านบาท. ถ่านดูดซับจำเป็นต้องใช้ในกิจการอุตสาหกรรมหลายอย่าง เช่น อุตสาหกรรมผงชูรส, น้ำตาล, น้ำอัดลม, น้ำสะอาดสำหรับบริโภค และอื่น ๆ ฯลฯ. ประเทศไทยอุดมด้วยวัตถุดิบหบายชนิดที่อาจนำมาผลิตเป็นถ่านดูดซับ (Activated Carbon) ได้ อาทิเช่น กะลามะพร้าว, ซังและต้นข้าวโพดแห้ง, ถ่านลิกไนท์, กากน้ำตาล, แกลบ, ขี้เลื่อย และไม้; ทั้งยังมีแนวโน้มในอุปสงค์ และราคาเพิ่มขึ้นเป็นลำดับ และยังมีลู่ทางของตลาดในต่างประเทศ, โดยเฉพาะถ่านดูดซับ (Activated Carbon) จากกะลามะพร้าวในตลาดญี่ปุ่น ซึ่งมีอุปสงค์ถึงปีละปรมาณ 9,000 ตัน. ฉะนั้น โรงงานผลิตถ่านดูดซับ (Activated Carbon) จึงน่าที่จะเป็นโครงการที่จะได้รับความสนใจจากผู้ประกอบการ, และควรจะได้มีการศึกษาให้ละเอียดทุกขั้นตอนของโครงการ เพื่อจะได้เป็นปัจจัยส่งเสริมให้เกิดอุตสาหกรรมนี้อย่างถูกต้องขึ้นในประเทศ, ซึ่งจะก่อให้เกิดมูลค่าเพิ่ม และสงวนเงินตราต่างประเทศได้อย่างน้อยปีละไม่ต่ำกว่า 15 ล้านบาท. - ผู้แต่ง.
