It is well aware that the uses of synthetic agricultural chemicals are dangerous to farmers and consumers including the environment. Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) in response to the Government policy on food safety has carried out 6 workshops to transfer the technology on the production and uses of plant extracts in agriculture to 306 farmers during 2009-2013. The uses of plants extracts in the production of cash crops could increased an income of farmers with higher sale prices, provide a safe work environment for farmers and consumers, and reduced contamination of hazardous agricultural chemicals in ecological system.สาระสังเขป: การใช้สารสกัดจากพืชในการป้องกันกำจัดศัตรูพืชเป็นอีกทางเลือกหนึ่งในการทดแทนการใช้สารเคมีป้องกันกำจัดศัตรูพืชที่เกษตรกรนิยมใช้อย่างแพร่หลาย มีพิษตกค้างทั้งในผลผลิตและในสภาพแวดล้อม รวมทั้งเป็นอันตรายต่อเกษตรกรและผู้บริโภค เพื่อสนับสนุนนโยบายการผลิตอาหารที่ปลอดภัยของรัฐบาล สถาบันวิจัยวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีแห่งประเทศไทย (วว.) ได้จัดการฝึกอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการถ่ายทอดเทคโนโลยีการผลิตและใช้ประโยชน์สารสกัดจากพืช เพื่อป้องกันกำจัดศัตรูพืช จากพืชที่มีคุณสมบัติป้องกันกำจัดศัตรูพืช 20 ชนิด ให้แก่เกษตรกรและผู้สนใจในช่วงปี พ.ศ. 2552-2556 รวมทั้งสิ้น 6 ครั้ง มีผู้เข้ารับการอบรมทั้งสิ้น 306 คน การนำความรู้ที่ได้จากการฝึกอบรมไปใช้ประโยชน์ในการผลิต นอกจากจะเพิ่มรายได้ของเกษตรกรจากการจำหน่ายผลิตผลปลอดสารพิษที่มีราคาจำหน่ายสูงกว่าผลิตผลทั่วไปแล้ว. ยังมีผลให้ความปลอดภัยแก่เกษตรกรและผู้บริโภค และลดมลภาวะจากการปนเปื้อนและตกค้างของสารเคมีป้องกันกำจัดศัตรูพืชในระบบนิเวศ.
