The following procedures are recommended: (1) Harvest maturity: ginger should be fully developed at time of harvest. (2) Washing in solution containing 100-200 p.p.m. chlorine (or approximately 0.5% Chlorox solution). (3) Drying immediately after washing under shade for 7-10 days. (4) Room temperature with low relative humidity will be satisfatory for a 4-week storage. (5) The most aggressive fungus found is Sclerotium rolfaii Sacc. Fungicidal treatment is effective in some extent. Howevor, with proper handling and storage, the treatment may not be necessary. (6) Packing with crate of capacity of 25 kg or 50 kg ginger is recommended. (7) Methyl bromide fumigation for controlling insects and nematodes.
