The experiment was carried out by refluxing methyl alcohol with krabok fat in the presence of sulphuric acid as a catalyst. Refluxing for at least 24 hours, gave the highest yield of 86 per cent of crude methyl esters, or 82 per cent of purified methyl esters by weight of krabok fat. The chemical composition of the methyl fatty esters, determined by GLC is as follows: methyl caprate 3.35-3.88 per cent methyl laurate 47.95-54.89 per cent, methyl myristate 38.74-43.04 per cent, methyl palmitate 1.69-4.02 per cent and methyl oleate 0.34-1.57 per cent.
