Fruits packed in polyethylene bags were still in good, green condition after 3 weeks, while the control had almost completely rotted. Vermiculite block, as ethylene absorbent and enclosed in the polyethylene bags, further helped retard ripening of the bananas. No sign of ripening was noticed after 35 days in storage. Fruits appeared to ripen normally on removal from the polyethylene bag. Author
