Burm.f "ALOCID" contained freeze-dried powder of Aloe vera as an active ingredient. Our result showed that a dose of 400 mg/kg body weight of the powder could heal ulcers already induced by 80 mg/kg body weight of diclofenac sodium. The average Ulcer index (UI) of the effective dose of the powder was lower than the control group significantly (p = 0032). Their values were 2.2 ±0.6 and 4±0.4, respectively. The powder could inhibit the secretion of two cytokines (tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) from LPS-induced human OE33 cells (oesophageal adenocarcinoma cell line) and showed 83.516 ±0.034 and 23.636±0.001 % inhibition at 1.25 mg/ml, respectively when compared with the control group. No symptom of toxicity was observed for 14 days when acute oral toxicity study of the powder was performed at a dose as high as 2000 mg/kg body weight. Aloe vera capsule exhibited the acceptable characteristics including weight variation and disintegration time.
