Non-irritant anti-microbial extracts from two specific varieties of S. suberosa caudexes were used to develop acne facial gel wash, acne solution, acne mask, acne transparent soap and portable mouthwash concentrate. RP-HPLC was used for quality control analysis of marker 1 and marker 2 constituents of the caudexes. The 6.2% yielded 1st grade extract was used in acne facial gel wash and acne solution. It was active against acne causing bacteria at the MIC 2.5 mg/ml, and against C. albicans at the MIC 7.5 mg/ml. It reduced inflammation on acute rat ear oedema at 4.43 mg/ear compared to 1 mg/ear std. phenylbutazone (70% and 55% inhibition at 30 min; 55.3% and 31% inhibition at 1 hr respectively). The 7.2% yielded 2 nd grade extract used in acne mask and mouthwash concentrate exhibited the MIC 2.5-5 mg/ml against acne causing bacteria, and the MIC 2.5 mg/ml against C. albicans. The 8.5% yielded 3rd grade extract used in acne transparent soap exhibited the MIC 7-9 mg/ml against acne causing bacteria, and the MIC 7 mg/ml against C. albicans.Crude ethanol extract from the white-inside caudexes of S. suberosa, containing marker 1 and marker 2, could be used as substituted active extract for acne transparent soap with darker colour. The 8.8% yielded active extract exhibited the MIC 2.5-5 mg/ml against acne causing bacteria, and the MIC >7.5 mg/ml against C. albicans. It reduced inflammation on acute rat ear oedema at 1.6 mg/ear compared to 0.2 mg/ear std. phenylbutazone (46.2% and 64.6% inhibition at 30 min; 28.6% and 24.7% inhibition at 1 hr respectively). Various biological activities of the extracts as cytotoxicity to brine-shrimp, antioxidation and anti-tyrosinase enzymes were tested.
