Many Thai people collected various potential species from the habitats to grow and develop to be economic plants and also to produce many medicinal products. Diversity of plant species and number of trees decreased day by day. Many species become rare and endangered in their habitats. The project entitled "Identification on morphology of rare and endangered species of Thai medicinal plants" was a subproject of "Wealth development program of rare and extinguishable medicinal plants" which was conducted for 5 years since October 2001 to September 2006. Many rare and endangered species of medicinal plants from all over Thailand were collected and planted in the Medicinal Garden for 6th cycle Birthday celebration of HM King Bhumibhol, Lamtakhong Plant Research Station, Amphoe Pakchong, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Ten adapted aspecies were planted in the nursery and produced flowers and fruits for identifying by the morphological technique namely Magnolia liliifera var. liliifera, Goniothalamus laoticus, Stephania venosa, Manglietia utilis, Mitrephora tomentosa, Bauhinia sirindhorniae, Anaxagorea luzonensis, Derris scandens, Stephania suberosa and Podocarpus neriifolius. The identification result using the morphological technique can be compared with the DNA fingerprinting technique. The identified names were used as references of related medicinal projects in many purposes especially for promoting standardized raw materials of medicinal plants. Data of this project, was publicized in the journal, research news and the exhibition of TISTR's achievements. - Authors.สาระสังเขป: สมุนไพรพื้นเมืองเป็นทรัพยากรธรรมชาติที่สำคัญของประเทศ มีการคัดเลือกและนำสมุนไพรที่มีคุณค่าจากป่ามาปลูกและพัฒนาเป็นพืชเศรษฐกิจหลายชนิด นำมาผลิตเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์สมุนไพรได้หลายตำรับ, ความหลากหลายของชนิดพันธุ์และจำนวนต้นของสมุนไพรในถิ่นกำหนดเริ่มหายากมากขึ้นโดยลำดับ หลายชนิดอยู่ในสถานภาพที่ใกล้สูญพันธ์, โครงการจำแนกพันธุ์พืชสมุนไพรที่หายากและใกล้สูญพันธุ์โดยสัณฐานวิทยา, ซึ่งมีระยะเวลาดำเนินการ 5 ปี ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2545 ถึงปี พ.ศ. 2549, เป็นโครงการย่อยของชุดโครงการพัฒนาทรัพยากรพืชสมุนไพรที่หายากและใกล้จะสูญพันธุ์, ได้ทำการจำแนกพันธุ์พืชสมุนไพรที่มีการสำรวจและรวบรวมจากพื้นที่ทั่วประเทศมาปลูกไว้ในสวนสมุนไพรเฉลิมพระเกียรติ สถานีวิจัยพืชลำตะคอง อ. ปากช่อง จ. นครราชสีมา, มีสมุนไพรที่สามารถปรับตัวได้ มีการเจริญเติบโต ออกดอกติดผลสามารถจำแนกชื่อชนิดและสายพันธุ์โดยใช้ลักษณะทางสัณฐานวิทยาของสมุนไพรได้ 10 ชนิด ได้แก่ ยี่หุบปลี, ข้าวหลามดง, กระท่อมแดง, จำปาหลวง, มะป่วน, สิรินธรวัลลี, กำลังวัวเถลิง, เถาวัลย์เปรียง, บอระเพ็ดพุงช้าง และพญาไม้. ข้อมูลการจำแนกนี้สามารถนำไปเปรียบเทียบกับวิธีตรวจสอบโดยใช้ดีเอ็นเอได้, มีการนำสมุนไพรที่ผ่านการจำแนกชื่อแล้วไปตรวจสอบสารออกฤทธิ์เพื่อนำไปใช้ประโยชน์ทางด้านสมุนไพร และนำมาเป็นข้อมูลส่งเสริมการผลิตเป็นวัตถุดิบสมุนไพรที่ได้มาตรฐานสากล ข้อมูลของการจำแนกพันธุ์พืชสมุนไพรที่หายากและใกล้สูญพันธุ์โดยสัณฐานวิทยานี้มีการนำออกเผยแพร่โดยเสนอในงานนิทรรศการ วารสาร และรายงานผลงานวิจัยของ วว. - ผู้แต่ง.
