Bioassay-guided fractionation (by MPLC) of the hexane extract led to the isolation and identification of (E)-4-(3',4'-dimethoxyphenyl) but-3-en-1-ylacetate(1), cis-3 (3',4'-dimethoxyphenyl)-4-[(E)-3''', 4''' -dimethoxystyryl] cyclohex-l-ene (2) and (E) -4-(3',4'-dimethoxyphenyl) but-3-en-l-ol(3). 1-3 excerted potent topical antiinflammatory activities with ID -values of 29, 17 and 31 ug/ear, respectively. The ID of the reference drug diclofenac was calculated to 84 ug/ear.
