Infected bananas showed premature ripening and severe rotting of crown tissue and finger-stalk. A Fusarium isolate was non-pathogenic. Of the four banana varieties tested, sweet varieties-hom-thong and khai-are most susceptible to crown rot pathogens: namwa has moderate degree of susceptibility; while hakmuk, the starchy type, is less subject to attack. Wounds on banana are required for initial fungal penetration and for rapid disease development.สาระสังเขป: The effectiveness of different fungicides was compared. Fungicidal treatments for control of crown rot were tested. Manganese ethylene bisdithiocarbamate (MgEDTC) 1 percent dip treatment is not as effective as methyl-1-(butylcarbamoyl)-2-benzimidazole carbamate (MeBuBZC) and 2-(4-thiazolyl)benzimidazole (TZBZ). MeBuBZC at 50 ug/ml or higher, 2-minute dip treatment, applied after inoculation of G. musarum or applied 24 hours after the inoculation, is highly effective. TZBZ at 300 ug/ml for 2 minutes also shows good results. TZBZ at 100 ug/ml is less effective. Neither MeBuBZC nor TZBZ show phytotoxicity at the concentration used.
