Data on soil types and soil analyses have been obtained from reports of the Department of Rice, the Department of Agriculture, the Royal Irrigation Department, and the Department of Land Development as well as from the engineering soil classification data of the Chokchai-Dat Udom highway. By studying samples within an area of approximately 1,470,087 rai (235,216 hectares), soils have been classified into various series named after changwat or amphoe. The soil series occurring most prominently is the Khorat series, and this has been selected as the typical soil of north-eastern Thailand. The soil contains 1.0-2.0 percent organic matter, has a silica (Sio ) content of 80.20-84.80 percent, and an alumina (Al O ) content of 2.60-7.67 percent S.K
