With this pilot plant the influences of the process parameters were investigated. The steaming period, steam pressure, and especially the thickness of the bran layer showed important influences on the effectiveness of stabilization. Optimum results were obtained with a steaming period of 7.5 minutes, a steam pressure of 2.0 kg/cm gauge, and a bran layer of 3 cm thickness. The bran treated in this way could be stored for 20 days in the open air before deterioration was noticed. Authorsสาระสังเขป: One of the major problems of the rice bran oil extraction industry in Thailand is associated with the rapid deterioration of the bran after milling as a result of the hydrolysis of the bran oil to free fatty acids. It is apparent that in the present situation the application directly after milling of a stabilization process to prevent this deterioration is imperative.
