Fresh rice bran was stabilized by steaming on both laboratory and pilot plant experiments, then it was packed and stored in various conditions. Room conditions where treated bran should be stored were either low in percentage humidity (less than 60 per cent) or low in temperature that mold stopped functioning (less than 4 C). However, with additional drying after steam treatment to lower the moisture in the treated bran to less than 3 per cent, the steamed bran could be stored without deterioration for at least 6 months. Comparative studies were also made on the storage conditions of parboiled rice bran and stabilized bran by dry heat treatment.
