Conversion of coconut acid oil into fatty acids for further re-esterification appears necessary. The autoclave fat spliting mwrhos has been used. The acid oil was treated with water in the presence of zinc oxide, a catalyst, at 190-195 degree celsius, 9-10 kg/cm for 3-6 hr. The crude fatty acids obtained were 84.9 and 86.5 per cent by weight of oil, for 3-4 hr and 5 1/2 - 6 hr reaction times respectively. The crude fatty acids were purified by distillation at 0.3-0.8 mmHg, giving a yield of 81.22 per cent by weight. Authors
