The cooking liquor containing 12 per cent caustic soda and 3 per cent sodium sulphite based on the weight of the raw materials. The pulp was bleached in three stages at 3 per cent pulp consistency with 10 per cent available chlorine. The bleached pulp had 85 and yield of 60 per cent.สาระสังเขป: Kenaf wood and retted kenaf cuttings are available as wastes in processing kenaf stalks for fibre. Their utilization as raw materials for newsprint manufacture was in vestigated. Cold soda mechanical pulp was prepared from kenaf wood. Bleached chemical pulp was prepared from kenaf cuttings, which are retted bast fibres of kenaf in 5 to 8 cm staple length.สาระสังเขป: The physical properties of test sheets were comparable to those of the average newsprint in the market. Higher breaking length and brust factor but lower opacity were noted for newsprint form kenaf. S.Kสาระสังเขป: The pulp furnishes for newsprint handsheets consisted of 80 to 85 per cent cold soda mechanical pulp from kenaf wood, and 15 to 20 per cent bleached chemical pulp from kenaf cuttings. In all pulp furnishes, two per cent fortified rosin size, four per cent aluminium sulphate and five per cent kaolin clay were added in making the test sheets.สาระสังเขป: To prepare cold soda mechanical pulp, kenaf wood chips were soaked in 1.5 per cent NaOH solution in 4:1 liquor ratio for three hours at room temperature and refining in a disc refiner. The pulp had a brightness 55 and yield of 75 per cent.
