After passing through these processes, seeds must be kept in vacuum can sealer or aluminum foil sealer and stored in cold room in the genebank with 0 to -20 degree celsius temperature. Under these conditions seeds can be stored for more than 50 years.สาระสังเขป: In Thailand, the lack of proper storage facilities is a major constraint in an attempt to conserve plant germplasm. As a result, the seed have to be rejuvenated frequently to maintain their viability. This is not only laborious, time-consuming, and expensive, but it also creates a problem of admixture of germplasm through human error which results in impurity and change in genetic composition of the accessions.สาระสังเขป: It is expected that the genebank will become the central storage for various germplasm of plant all over the country. This is reflected in the establishment of genebanks for conserving plant genetic resources.สาระสังเขป: ขั้นตอนต่าง ๆ ของการอนุรักษ์เมล็ดพันธุ์พืชคือ บันทึกประวัติข้อมูลของเมล็ดพันธุ์, คัดขนาดเมล็ดพันธุ์, ต่อจากนั้นจะต้องทำความสะอาด และทดสอบความงอกของเมล็ดพันธุ์, การทำเมล็ดให้แห้ง และเก็บไว้ในกระป๋องหรือซองอะลูมิเนียม (aluminum foil) ขึ้นสุดท้ายจะนำไปเก็บไว้ในห้องเย็นของธนาคารที่มีอุณหภูมิ 0 องศาเซลเซียส ถึง ลบ 20 องศาเซลเซียส โดยจะสามารถเก็บไว้ได้นานกว่า 50 ปี.สาระสังเขป: คาดว่าธนาคารดังกล่าวจะเป็นแหล่งกลางในการรวบรวมเชื้อพันธุ์พืชต่าง ๆ ทั่วประเทศ, นอกจากนี้ยังจะเป็นแหล่งแลกเปลี่ยนเมล็ดพันธุ์กับต่างประเทศอีกด้วย. ผู้สนใจรายละเอียดโปรดติดต่อสาขาวิจัยอุตสาหกรรมการเกษตร วท. โทร. 5791121-30 ต่อ 1124, 5101. - ผู้แต่ง.สาระสังเขป: จากปัญหาดังกล่าว คณะกรรมการแหล่งพันธุกรรมทางพืชนานาชาติ (IBPGR) ได้มอบเงินอุดหนุนการวิจัยเป็นมูลค่า 150,000 เหรียญสหรัฐ ให้แก่สถาบันวิจัยวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีแห่งประเทศไทย (วท.) เพื่อดำเนินการจัดสร้างธนาคารพันธุ์พืชแห่งชาติ เพื่อเก็บรวบรวมและอนุรักษ์พันธุ์พืชที่หายากและใกล้สูญพันธุ์ หรือพืชพันธุ์ดีเพื่อนำไปใช้ทางด้านพันธุศาสตร์ในการปรับปรุงพันธุ์พืชต่าง ๆ ในอนาคต.สาระสังเขป: ปัจจุบันหลายประเทศได้ให้ความสำคัญแก่การอนุรักษ์พันธุ์พืชเป็นอย่างมาก โดยได้มีการจัดสร้างธนาคารเชื้อพันธุ์พืช (Genebank) ขึ้น.สาระสังเขป: สำหรับประเทศไทย การขาดแคลนสถานที่เก็บรักษาทำให้เชื้อพันธุ์พืชที่เก็บไว้เสื่อมคุณภาพอย่างรวดเร็ว ซึ่งนอกจากจะทำให้เสียเวลาและสิ้นเปลืองแล้วยังมีผลทำให้เกิดการผิดพลาดและเกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงในทางพันธุศาสตร์ของพันธุ์พืชเหล่านั้นด้วย.
