A short history of the making and use of bricks in ancient and present times is given. The description of methods for making hand-made bricks shows that the brick-making is still carried out in a most primitive way. An analysis of manufacturing cost is given as well as a cost comparison between hand-made and pressed brick per one square metre of wall. It is also shown that the hand-made brick in spite of many imperfections but due to its low price still remains the most popular material for filling framed walls.สาระสังเขป: Recommendations are given for improvements in the manufacturing of hand-made bricks and future development of pressed bricks.
